Celebrating New Year in Brazil

What’s so strange about New Year’s in Brazil, you ask? It’s still New Year’s, right? Yes, it is, but January down south is when summer is at its height, and that makes the New Year celebrations even warmer and more welcoming.

Preparations for Confraterniza_o (that’s the official name of the day in Brazil) begin in October. It’s quite strange to see New Year’s lights, trees, reindeer and different Christmas and New Year’s accessories when the temperature around you jumps over thirty degrees.
