Pubs and Bars in Riga

Taste is a personal thing – one man’s poison is another man’s gold, to some degree it can be taught and modified, but tasting the beer is the special thing. Riga, the capital of Latvia, has a number of very good pubs and bars with good menu and old traditions of brewing.

Paddy Whelan’s has more than a dozen different beers on tap. Don’t be suprised to see drinks downed at startling rates when local ex-pats frequent the place to watch the footbal on Sky Sports.

Runcis (Tomcat) is little place is also slightly tucked away, yet still in the heart of Old Riga. Somewhere you can escape the tourist hordes and perhaps get in touch with some locals.

Casablanca has one of the coolest vibes in Riga. On other occasions, elderly Scandinavian tourists can be seen knocking back the booze on the outside terrace. More like a pub and club combo.

Tim McShanes’ has the 22 beers on tap is enough to knock any Irishman off his perch. While sampling the local brews, there are plenty of imported beers to also keep you busy. The air condirioning also gives you a break.

Melanais Kakis (Black Cat) is not offers for the range of beers, but for fact you can continue your drinking session in here until 7 a.m. It has games and gambling galore too.

If you’re still standing, it’s appropriate to end a Latvian pub crawl in Lido. You can eat a mountain of food, and wash it down with their own brewed honey ale.
