Grand Prix de Monaco

The Grand Prix de Monaco is always held late May. The dates for the Monaco Grand Prix 2007 were 24 to 27 May (Sunday being the race day).

The dates for future years are:

  • 22 to 25 May 2008
  • 21 to 24 May 2009
  • 20 to 23 May 2010

The circuit closes for the practice sessions as well, but Monaco is easy to walk around.

Get to Monaco as early as possible on the day of the race; first train from Nice if possible. Food can be bought most places reasonably but I would remind people that there is a McDonalds near the track at the swimming pool end the other side of the palace… if you want a restaurant, go to Fontevielle again on the other side of the palace, its a smaller bay and not too busy (Look for signs to the Columbus hotel).

Book early, the Hotels in Monte Carlo are terribly expensive when the Grand Prix. Try staying at Nice hotels. The problem is you have the Cannes film festival and the formula One the same week end (50 km between)

The hotel Park Inn in Nice has a shuttle that runs to and from the airport. After your flight to Nice – at the airport you can catch a bus, which takes you to Monte Carlo. From Nice you also can take the train. It’s easy, fast and cheap.

There is a world between stands & terraces for the Monaco Grand Prix… As you probably know, Monaco is not a permanent circuit, so the view from a well located apartment is the best position to watch the race.

You can be in a viewing area just high enough to see the action but not too high that you can’t fully enjoy the race.

You should book the hotel as soon as possible. Then research where you want to watch from (balconied room or various grandstands… there are photos all over the internet to give you the views), and then order your race tickets when they go on sale around November.

If you want to splurge on a package, also consider those that may be offered by the teams themselves… I know Ferrari does one and some other teams… it’s the most extravagant way to do the trip… but if you have the money…

For the formula one track, that depend if you have money, if you wish a seat or to go on the “rock” with no seat…

If you are going on the Rock get there early.

You will see all of the harbor area and still get a feel for the atmosphere.

If you are early you can get a good pitch on the wall.
