How to get from Nice to Monaco, Monte-Carlo

Nice is the nearest airport to Monte Carlo / Monaco. From the airport you can take a taxi or a helicopter. You can go by helicopter from Nice Airport to Monaco if you are feeling “flush”. Spend the money on the helicopter transfers. It is a 10-minute ride and there is no cooler way to arrive. Car and bus transfers can get locked up in traffic and at times take up to 1.5 hours to get 10km between the cities. Trains are more reliably quicker, but not as convenient to pick up from the airport as the helicopter service is (they are, of course, right at the airport). Normally you don’t have to book unless there is a special event going on in Monaco – Grand Prix etc. The helicopter link is the best way – the heliport is in Fontvieille in Monaco. Around 70 euros a person. Ten minutes. Helio service between Nice airport and Monte Carlo would run about $250 per couple, 80 euros each one way.

What an amazing view!

There is a regular train service between Nice and Monte-Carlo. The last train departs around 12 midnights. It only takes 30 minutes.
In Monte Carlo, you can pretty much walk everywhere. The palace is up on the hill (the rock) and overlooks the harbor. There is a lot to see up there between the palace, changing of the guard, Princess Grace’s final resting place at the Cathedral and the also the Aquarium – not to mention the town itself up there. The casino, hotels and beaches are down below, but not too far to walk if you like to walk.

You can take train from Monte Carlo to Cannes, and Nice is one of the stops on it. Just make sure that you ask the attendant at the station what time the train leaves because the schedules weren’t right and the train left a few minutes earlier than was listed. It cost us 30 euros to got to Cannes for two people round trip, but to Nice it’s less than that because it’s not as far a distance. Be sure to validate your ticket before you board the train.

If you are going for the day from downtown, take the train. It is inexpensive ($10 roundtrip approx). We took a taxi and it was quick 40 minutes and 65 euro. The chopper will be much more expensive if there are more than one of you. Honestly… It’s really easy to take a train and inexpensive plus you get to travel along the French Riviera – you get some cool views of the water and the beaches. If you are looking to go to Eze Village, the train will not get you there.

Another option is the bus of Rapides Cote d’Azur between Monte-Carlo (in front of Barclays Bank in Monte-Carlo) and the Bus Terminal in Nice (Gare Routière), right across from the Nice old town. The cost is 1,30 euro for a one-way ride. There is a bus that goes between Nice and Monaco. It is a nice way to travel because you can see more than on the train. The bus you want is the TAM 100 and it goes from Nice to Menton. You can get off at various places in Monaco. We drove north along the coast through all the beautiful towns on our way to Cannes, Grasse.

However, the train and the bus both travel there frequently. Train would be even quicker.

Hire a car it’s by far the best way to get about. You can also drive the famous circuit of the F1 – a bit slower than Schummie however (mind you this year that might be difficult!!!).

Also a visit to Eze village is not to be missed and the best way to do all this in 1 day is by car. It’s not difficult to drive either.
