Flight to Canary Islands
There are cities on various continents with direct flights to the Canaries, with an annual passenger flow of several million.
All of the islands have airports, where numerous companies operate, with daily flights to different geographical areas, whether international, domestic or local.
The average duration of a flight to anywhere in central Europe is some four hours, while it only takes two hours to reach mainland Spain. The demand for flights between the islands is also covered by fleets of local companies. These flights take some twenty or thirty minutes. There are also modern ferry companies providing services between the islands.
The capitals of all of the islands have international ports and those of Las Palmas and Tenerife are especially well-known. It is worth pointing out that these ports are among the most important in the Atlantic Ocean as a meeting point between America, Africa and Europe, with connections to all the continents, and with a large volume of sea traffic including both passengers and goods. The Port of Las Palmas is the most important as a base for fishing in the Cental Atlantic area and is the most important in Spain.
Canary Islands Ports
The main oil companies offer the widest-ranging and best options in the area. They also have a service for collection of oil residues to combat contamination.
The installations in Canarian ports enable lape amounts of goods to be stored, whether containers or refrigerated facilities, supplies of other kinds, technical equipment, victuals and such like. They also have the largest ship repair yards in the area; this is the great repair centre in the Eastern Central Atlantic, in either dry or wet docks.
During 2004, one hundred and sixty-two fishing-boats and six merchant ships, making a total of one hundred and sixty-eight ships flying the Japanese flag, used the facilities of the Port of Las Palmas. This port is the base for the Japanese tuna fleet which fishes the Atlantic Ocean, and eighty per cent of Japanese imports of cephalopods come from Canarian ports.
