Canary Islands attractions

The islands long history has given rise to an immense cultural heritage, characterized by the mixing of the legacies of the numerous influences received by the islands in their role as a meeting point between continents. In correct chronological order, the first events that must be emphasized as part of this valuable cultural background are the significant archaeological sites. These go back to the pre-Hispanic past of the islands, and their importance brings researchers from all over the planet.
Of particular importance are the conservation of mummies and funeral shrouds, as well as collections of pottery, including idols and identifying markings, tools, leather, wooden and bone objects as well as others made with less durable plant materials. These collections are conserved in museums, archaeological parks and caves with rock-markings.
The islands were the final part of the Old World where Christopher Columbus put in on his voyages of discovery to America.
