Getting around Prague

Municipal transport consists of a well-functioning system of bus and tram lines and three Metro lines, which can take you to all areas of the city. The public transport network also includes a funicular up to Petfin Hill. Tickets are on sale at street ticket-machines, newsagents, some shops, hotels and travel agencies. Tourists can also use short-term tickets valid for 24 hours, 3,7 or 15 days that are available, for example, at the information centres of the company Dopravni podnik and the Prague Information Service.

Rail and Bus

We advise you not to forget to stamp your ticket on entering a tram or bus or the transportation area of the Metro!

Special stamping machines have been installed for this purpose in trams, buses and at the entrance to the Metro. Only stamped tickets are valid!
Taxi

Maximum taxi fares have been set for the territory of the capital city of Prague. The fare consists of an entrance fee (CZK 34,-). a rate per kilometre (CZK 25,-) and a waiting rate (CZK 5,- per minute).

On request every taxi driver is obliged to make out a receipt for the fare paid.

We recommend you request information about the estimated rate in advance.

It is also advisable to book a taxi by telephone in advance.

Airport

From Prague Airport you can use bus lines No. 119 (Ruzyne Airport – Dejvicka Metro Station /Line А/ and back), No. 100 (Ruzyne Airport – Zlicin Metro Station /Line Ð’/ and back) or shuttle transportation (minibuses) to central Prague that is operated every half hour (Ruzyne Airport – nam. Republiky, with a stop at Dejvicka, and back).

In the event you opt for a taxi to get to the city, you can use the airport taxi service for a fixed rate or hire a taxi by telephone.

The distance between the airport and the city centre (Wenceslas Square) is 18 kilometres.

Every tourist who buys goods of a value exceeding CZK 2,500 in one purchase and takes them abroad within a period of 60 days is entitled to a VAT refund after obtaining a certificate from the customs office.

You only need to fill in the refund form you receive from the border customs office, the Tax Authority or directly at selected shops.

Make sure you have your form stamped by customs before you check in to leave the European Union (at the same time you wiH be required to produce a receipt confirming the purchase of goods and present your purchases).
