And El-Guna is a small warm Egyptian Venice… and dainteth and elegant Madinat Makadi… And Soma Bay, and Marsa Alam, and Dakab, and Safana… Every thin is like a fairy tale, which was taken to a real life of wise oracles1 own will.
Have you been to Cairy? Oh, Cairo!… The biggest city of Africa, modern and “wild”, primitive. Blocks of futuristic skyscrapers creepingly turning into districts unfamiliar with innovations of modern world. Thousands of sharp minarets shoot up the skies – architectural masterpieces of all times, witnesses of past centuries and beholders of today. Directly in the city center – the National museum of Cairo, in a couple of steps – the great Giza pyramids.
They are almost hundred – big and small, stepwise and plain, some are in perfect condition, others were brought into stones by the time and nature. Whatever it is, the pyramids are the wonder of the world, miraculously are remained in our heritage.
It’s a sin to be in Egypt and not to see Luxor, this grand outdoor museum giving you specific feeling of ancient Egypt land. You got the feeling that ancient gods will come to life, heroes of myths will wake from a dream. Just imagination? No, absolutely natural sense considering the fact that under each city building lies the fundament of the ancient temples and palaces, sphinxes alley, parts of statoes.
Once the capital of the ancient Egyptian state was here, Egyptians called it Uaset, Greeks – Phoeve, Arabs -al-Uksur. They are translated like “palaces”. There are 42 tombs in Luxor valley. Lebanon pharaohs of the New Kingdom did not build the pyramids, their final abode were cut our in the rocks and were encloistered from strangers eyes. Luxor – Memphis: like two different ancient Egypts…
And the way goes further to Alexandria. Currently this is the second outman city in the country. Modern Alexandria is actually two cities in one: ancient with narrow streets of Ottoman Empire times and new one with a dominant of multistory lookers – achievements of the modern architecture. The great wonder in Alexandria is Alexandrian lighthouse, the first in the whole world, and the famous Alexandrian library, which burnt down at Caesar times, and recently built up and the experts did their best to reconstruct everything that was lost. And also there’s amphitheatre and catacombs of Kam as-Shavkaf, witnesses of first centuries of Anno Domini.
And Petra? A road is laid along the bottom of Sik canyon tends to mannered city. You are walking among the giant rocks of about hundred meters height. Khazhna depository hewn in the red rock, el-Khazine treasury, great Umm al-Gima – ruins of stone buildings, churdbe*, roman barracks and fortress, built of the black basalt and located on the edge of black basalt desert.
And also Mukavir, a modern name of Makairos hill, where the palace of Irod the Great was located. And at final – El-Deir temple, a cave cut out in the rock. Its walls are not decorated as opposed to main part of Petra buildings, and some undefined powers add severe solemnity, divine beauty, which can be found only un temples…. Egypt, the Black Land, Keni, as your people named you before, how many precious treasures do you hide? How will you surprise the researchers? With what wonders you will impress the tourists?
Keeps silence.
Proud Gods look coldly on curious guests from their stone bas-reliefs, rocky sphinxes apathetically watch the human vanity. Nile steadily, slowly rolls its waves green banks as it did at the times of ancient pharaohs, New and Middle Kingdoms, Greek and Caesar. Until Ra will travel from the East to the West on his fire wagon, Nile will nurse its green banks, and Egypt will prosper ? country of mystery, country of secret.
