PRAGUE RESTAURANTS: Le Papillon

The historically listed, five-star, Le Palais Hotel, is gently nestled in the calm and leafy suburb of Vinohrady. It’s imposing and ornate facade makes a grand impression on guests as they approach. A walk through the interior reveals further intricate and hidden, artistic delights. These include the works of Ludek Marold, the famous Czech painter, who’s frescos embellish a number of the walls.
An old-world, gentile, romantic sense of luxury permeates the surroundings. There is the classic, wood-lined library with it’s inviting fireplace and book-lined embrace; the drinks lounge with comfortable leather armchairs and drinks at hand and the luscious summer terrace with its’ fabulous, panoramic, view.
Finally we come to the plush restaurant with its’ sparkling chandeliers, period furniture and views across the famous Vysehrad valley. This is the domain of the chef Radek Subrt who’s rich, seasonal, French-inspired, cuisine are created to charm and delight the palate.

Cold appetizers: Tartar of marinated salmon with horseradish mousse and Ossetra caviar (380K6). Venison pate and foie gras with cranberry jam (340Kc).

Warm appetizers: Grilled goat’s cheese with rocket salad and cranberry jam (310Kc).

Fish: Grilled yellow-fin tuna steak with creamy green cabbage, grilled courgette (560Kc). Fillet of bream roasted in butter with polenta mash (590Kc). Scallops sauteed in thyme with parsley puree and braised spinach (590Kc).

Meat: Grilled quail breast with truffle mash, slices of foie gras and turnip braised in butter (590Kc). Grilled beef steak served with Jerusalem artichokes au gratin, slices of truffle and thyme carrots (590Kc). Saddle of venison roasted in rosemary with black root, chestnuts and cranberries (590Kc).

Desserts: Curd cheese dumplings with plums, grated gingerbread and plum sorbet (230Kc). Veloute of hot chocolate with cinnamon ice cream (230Kc).
