They say that fashion only likes the new, but it’s currently obsessed by one of the most beautiful fossils on the planet – created around 90 million years ago when tree resin trapped debris such as leaves, seeds and feathers, preserving them inside what we now call amber. Its deep, sun-soaked color has long been associated with what is often referred to as the poetry of the Baltic. Shopping in the multi-faceted jewel of a city that is Tallinn is incomplete without picking up some gorgeous amber jewelry.

New York, London, Milan, Paris… Tallinn? The Estonian capital is beginning to establish its position as a fashion city, both locally and regionally. Thanks to Tallinn Fashion Week, which had its third annual showing in November 2010, a roster of young designers has emerged, mixing technical proficiency with boundary-pushing ideas.

Estonian chocolate
Estonian chocolate has plenty of fans, and the mouth-watering delights of Kalev might be the reason why. Vanilla souffle, cranberry fillings and the hand-made truffles are just a few of 200-year-old Kalev’s specialities. Available in gift boxes featuring Estonian landmarks, they make a tempting present. The Kadriorg box with almond, hazelnut and coconut pralines is a threat.

Transdanubia begins at the foothills of the Alps to the west and extends as far as the Danube. In between, it takes in the volcanic cones north of Lake Balaton and the green and roiling Mecsek and Villany hills to the south. The sheer diversity of the region makes it he perfect rural holiday destination. There is so much to discover m the forested hills of Visegrad Pilis, Gerecse, Vertes and Bakony, with their nature protection areas, geological and biological rarities and the network of ruined romantic castles with a history stretching back to medieval times.

A great, misty panorama of mountains fills the horizon. All around are forests and more forests, green and dense. Along the streams, blackberries and bright blueberries are underfoot. So many berries in one place! You can even smell their cool juice in the air‚ harsh and pungent like the aroma of the Carpathians itself. As you climb, the hill becomes steeper and your heart begins to pound. You stop, breathe out, and breathe in lungs full of fresh air. And to your surprise, a single glance at the high mountaintops is enough to give you a second wind. No, it’s not the view of the blue mountains that inspires you‚ it’s the Carpathian air and the healing effect of the beech forests.

As for weekend vacation accommodation in Quebec we’ve chosen Courtyard By Marriott.  Hotel is amazing. Useful parking is right across the street. An entrance into the walled section is right next door. The staff is happy and helpful. The rooms and public areas are clean and roomy. The rate is much less then other hotels within the wall or right nearby. The location is great, right outside the Old City Wall. A quick walk to tons of sites to see, shops, and restaurants.
